Desde hace 30 años ha desarrollado su obra personal dentro del género llamado Arte Fantástico. La estética futurista y la Ciencia Ficción a la par del arte indígena mesoamericano, influyeron directamente en su obra, mezclando el pasado y el presente con impredecibles futuros.
​
En México su obra ha sido exhibida en el Salón de la Plástica Mexicana, además de galerías, universidades y espacios culturales. En el extranjero en la Galería Stendhal de NY, Galería de la Sociedad de ilustradores de NY, Museo de arte Latino, Los Ángeles CA, Foro Heredia en Santiago de Cuba, Basel, Suiza.

Incluido en diversas publicaciones internacionales como el Anuario de la Sociedad de Ilustradores de Nueva York, la revista de ciencia ficción Heavy Metal, el anuario SPECTRUM, compendio mundial de creadores de Arte Fantástico por 8 años consecutivos, el libro The Future of Erotic Fantasy Art I y II.

2010 fue seleccionado como uno de los 20 mejores artistas en técnicas manuales de Arte Fantástico para el libro llamado Fantasy+3 editado en China. Su trabajo aparece también en diversos sitios web de Arte Fantástico.

2012 editó su primer libro, antología con 27 años de trabajo en el Arte Fantástico mexicano, actualmente trabaja en la elaboración de una serie de libros didácticos con sus técnicas. Imparte conferencias y talleres de Arte Fantástico en universidades y espacios culturales.
2014 invitado por los editores del libro SPECTRUM a exponer su obra Tricentenario en la third SPECTRUM exhibition, en las instalaciones de The Society of Illustrators, en la ciudad de Nueva York.

2015Miembro del Museum Art Latino, L.A. USA dode ha expuesto su obra en varias ocaciones desde 2011.

2017 Invitado por Milenio TV a crear una obra pictórica con el tema “El Amor visto por el Arte”, donde incluye, cápsula para televisión, exposición itinerante y todo un programa de difusión a nivel nacional.
​
Raúl Cruz usa técnicas tradicionales, acuarelas, acrílicos, tintas, aerógrafo, así como técnicas digitales con Photoshop, Illustrator. Además de su obra pictórica, trabaja técnicas dimensionales y escultóricas, siempre con temas de Arte Fantástico.
​
En el área de la publicidad ha trabajado de forma independiente desde 1983 elaborando toda clase de arte comercial para difersos clientes nacionales y internacionales.

For more than 30 years he has developed his personal work within the genre called Fantastic Art. Futurist aesthetics and science fiction combined with Mesoamerican Indian art directly influenced his work, mixing the past and the present with unpredictable futures.
In Mexico, his work has been exhibited at the Salon de la Plástica Mexicana, Arte XXI Gallery, universities and cultural spaces in different entities of the country. Abroad in New York, San Diego, Chicago, Los Angeles, Santiago de Cuba. In different websites and has been interviewed multiple times for magazines, newspapers, radio and television.
His work has been included in various international publications such as the New York Illustrators Society Yearbook, Heavy Metal Science fiction magazine, SPECTRUM yearbook, worldwide compendium of Fantastic Art creators for 8 consecutive years, The Future of Erotic Fantasy Art I and II among others.
Nominated for the Chesley Award 2006 in the Unpublished Monochrome category, by the Chesley Nominating Committee in addition to the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA).
Selected as one of the 20 best artists in manual techniques of Fantastic Art for the book called Fantasy + 3 edited in China. His work also appears in various websites of Fantastic Art.

Called to participate in the exhibition Third Spectrum exhibition with his work Tricentenario, along with legends of the fantastic art like Boris Vallejo, Donato Giancola, carried out in the gallery of The Society of Illustrators, in the city of New York.
Invited by Milenio TV to create a pictorial work with the theme "Love Seen by Art", which includes, interview, traveling exhibition and an entire program of national dissemination.
Besides his pictorial work, he works in the experimentation of materials and dimensional and sculptural techniques, always with themes of Fantastic Art.
In the area of ​​advertising he has worked independently since 1983 developing all kinds of commercial art.
